Wire Trim Edge Cutting Tape
Wire Trim is used to trim many types of coatings. Trim a wide variety of coatings, from medium durometer polyurethane to high durometer polyurea's. The main function of Wire Trim Edge Cutting Tape is trimming through strong coatings from the bottom up. The method involves the use of a small high-strength cutting filament, adhered to the edge of adhesive tape and positioned on a surface along the desired trim line where the coating is to be applied.

Benefits Of Wire Trim Tape
- Enables sharp, precise cuts through tough polyurethane and polyurea coatings
- Cut from the bottom up, protecting the surface
- Fast, residue-free removal when de-masking
- Makes the process of installing a spray-on bedliner much faster and easier
Application Of Wire Trim Tape
Steel Wire Trim Edge Cutting Tape is widely used in the field of car and subway spraying. Also used with Wire Trim for Pickup Truck Bedliners.
Application Process of Stainless Steel Cutting Wire Tape
Here the application process is illustrated as Wire Trim is used to trim a spray-on truck bedliner.
-
1Remove wax and silicone from a dirt-free surface. Then apply Wire Trim along all trim lines. For best results, notch tape to conform to tight corners and gently stretch the tape around curves. -
2Apply PlazMask, our pre-folded masking film, or masking paper, then scuff right up to the wire edge. Wire Trim is durable enough to withstand most prep work. Wire Trim's patented technology makes it easy to work fast. The special adhesive permits repositioning if required. -
3Proceed to spray the pick-up truck bed just as you would normally, directly over the WireTrim tape and any other masking products you used in preparation for the spray job. -
4Pull the wire through the coating to provide a clean finished edge at an angle that suits your style. Choose from standard or heavy-duty wire to best suit your application. Always pull wire out as soon as possible after application. -
5Remove PlazMask or masking paper and tape to complete the trimming process. Our Proline products feature a high tack adhesive; remove slowly to eliminate clean up.

Wire Trim Tips & Helpful Hints
⚠️ Adhesive is left behind after tape is removed
As a rule, Wire Trim should never leave adhesive residue behind once the tape has been removed from the vehicle. Try pulling the tape at a slower pace in order to ensure that all the adhesive remains with the tape and does not stay on the vehicle.
Frequently Asked Questions
QWhat is Wire Trim Edge Cutting Tape used for?
Wire Trim Edge Cutting Tape is primarily used to trim strong coatings such as polyurethane and polyurea from the bottom up. It is widely applied in automotive, truck bedliner, subway, and industrial spray coating projects to achieve a sharp, clean finished edge.
QWhat is the structure of Polyurethane Wire Trim Tape?
The tape is composed of multiple layers: PET film + stainless steel wire or fiber cutting filament + high-tack adhesive + paper or film liner. This multi-layer construction provides the strength and precision required for cutting through tough coatings.
QWhat sizes does Wire Trim Tape come in?
Wire Trim Tape is available in standard dimensions including 1/4-inch × 100 feet and 1/3-inch × 100 feet. Custom sizes may also be available depending on your specific application requirements.
QHow do I prevent adhesive residue from being left on the vehicle?
To avoid leaving adhesive residue on the vehicle surface, always pull the Wire Trim tape at a slow and steady pace during removal. Pulling too quickly can cause the adhesive to separate from the tape backing and remain on the vehicle.
QWhen should the wire be pulled after spraying?
The wire should be pulled through the coating as soon as possible after the spray application is completed. Pulling promptly ensures a clean, precise cut edge and prevents the coating from fully hardening around the wire, which could make removal more difficult.
QWhat industries and applications is Wire Trim Tape recommended for?
Wire Trim Tape is recommended for a broad range of industries including automotive (truck bedliners, car spraying), subway and transit vehicle coating, industrial coating, construction, electrical applications, and plastic surface finishing where precise edge trimming is required.
